Point of Coin founder Donn Lasher has been involved in Bitcoin since 2011, and is pleased with the location of their first machine, "We're excited about our partnership with Westfield in this location," says Lasher, "They were aware of Bitcoin, and were as motivated as we were to bring a Bitcoin ATM to their location. We couldn't ask for a better location, at the Main mail entrance, directly across from my favorite theater in town, Cinetopia, and right beneath the food court."
The Bitcoin ATM, manufactured by Robocoin, is open with the mall, from 7:30am – 11:00pm daily. New users, after completing the registration process, log in with their Cell phone #, and PIN, then use an SMS code sent to the phone for extra security.
Once their identity has been verified, users can instantly buy or sell Bitcoins using their online wallet, or transfer coins to/from wallets located with other services, or on their phones. The ATM allows a user to transaction up to $3,000 USD a day at the machine.
Co-founder Cary Minden felt like the process of buying and selling via online exchanges was too complicated and time-consuming for the first-time Bitcoin users, and wanted to do something about the problem. Minden says, "You can walk up to the machine for the first time, and 60 seconds later, be buying Bitcoin. It's still astonishing to me how fast and easy the ATM makes this process. While the price of Bitcoin, compared to the US Dollar, has been somewhat volatile over the last 12 months, ranging from $189 per coin to $702 per coin, even Wall Street is getting involved. One of the largest Bitcoin exchanges, Coinbase, just closed a record setting $110M funding round, with investors like USAA and the New York Stock Exchange getting invested.
