New "Cheddar Counter" Interactive Map Shows Where You Can 'Live the Dream'
Trove Technologies Matches Salaries with Taxes and Cost of Living
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Trove Technologies released THE CHEDDAR COUNTER, an interactive map that allow individuals to match professions with municipalities and regions around the United States and discover how much discretionary income they can earn based on where they live.
THE CHEDDAR COUNTER, which draws from publically available data, combines salaries for over 770 professions with cost-of-living and tax data for 195 cities in the United States. The resulting tool allows individuals to see where they can not only earn the most income for their chosen profession, but also how those dollars can be stretched by living somewhere with an overall lower threshold of taxes and living expenses.
Key Findings of THE CHEDDAR COUNTER include:
- The overall best state for highest average discretionary income is Texas (TX); the overall best city is Austin, TX
- The overall worst state for lowest average discretionary income is Hawaii (HI); the overall worst city is Honolulu, HI
- Film and Video Editors living in Los Angeles, CA earn $32k in discretionary income on average, the highest of any city in the US
- Bill and Account Collectors living in Michigan (MI) earn $8k in discretionary income on average, while those holding the same job in California (CA) have trouble covering their basic expenses.
Methodology
The data used to create this tool was sourced from Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Tax Foundation, The Council For Community and Economic Research. Using a proprietary algorithm, Trove developed the tool and map.
