New data from Travelocity.ca shows Canadians should travel South of the border for cheap Canada Day getaways

TORONTO, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - Despite our strong national pride on Canada Day, new booking data released by Travelocity.ca has found that many Canadians are using the long weekend as an opportunity to visit U.S. cities, including Las Vegas, where sales of flight and hotel packages have increased double digits for Canadian bookings to the city of sin.

These travellers are taking advantage of it being a long weekend and visiting our neighbours to the South for our Nation's birthday. Since the U.S. celebrates their own Independence Day the following weekend, demand for domestic travel in the USA over the Canada Day weekend will be lowered, creating an opportunity for Canadians to capitalize on lower prices.

Here at home, hotel rates for Canadians looking to celebrate on home turf have seen modest increases this year in cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, yet have seen double-digit decreases in places like Mont-Tremblant and Quebec City . There are still great rates available for Canada Day in these cities, but more-and-more, Canadians are realizing savings when combining their flight and hotel in one booking, as domestic package bookings are up over 20 per cent.
