New E-book from Houston Attorney and FCPA expert Tom Fox Provides Lessons in China Bribery Crackdown
HOUSTON, Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- A new e-book published by attorney, author and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) expert Tom Fox is pulling back the curtain on this summer's bribery accusations leveled by the Chinese government against pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline.
In "GSK in China: A Game Changer in Compliance," Mr. Fox explores the many unusual elements of the case, in which company employees are accused of bribing Chinese doctors and other officials to encourage the use of Glaxo drugs.
"As bad as it seems, there are many lessons that compliance officers can draw from and use as teachable moments within their own companies," Mr. Fox says.
Available through Amazon's Kindle, this is the first e-book for Mr. Fox, a Houston lawyer and author of two previous books on corporate compliance in foreign lands. His "FCPA Compliance and Ethics Blog" was named one of the Top 25 Business Law Blogs in 2010 and 2011 by LexisNexis.
The new book examines the GlaxoSmithKline bribery and corruption allegations, what compliance officers can do, "and what it may all mean for international companies doing business in China."
Just as important, Mr. Fox says, is the individual perspective. The GSK developments may cause "many Western ex-pats to rethink whether or not they are willing to be stationed in the country for fear of being caught up in the Chinese judicial system."
Mr. Fox's two earlier books are "Best Practices under the FCPA and Bribery Act: How to Create a First Class Compliance Program" and "Lessons Learned on Compliance and Ethics." Most recently, Mr. Fox was General Counsel at Drilling Controls Inc., a worldwide oil field manufacturing and service company. Before that, he was Division Counsel with Halliburton Energy Services Inc.
