VANCOUVER, Wash., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- New Edge Networks, the managed services business communications unit of EarthLink Inc. (Nasdaq: ELNK), today announced the completion of an MPLS Network for Southern Arizona Legal Aid.

Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Tucson, AZ that provides free, civil legal aid to qualified low-income individuals. The organization serves nine Arizona counties and 11 Indian reservations from seven offices across the state. Many of its employees telecommute and work remotely from out in the community enrolling and supporting clients.

SALA's work requires real-time access to its client database and excellent communication amongst its staff.  The organization was struggling with low bandwidth at its rural offices, poor connections for its remote workers, slow downloads and session timeouts.

To improve its operations, SALA selected New Edge Networks as its managed network service provider. New Edge installed an MPLS T-1 based network, which increased the bandwidth at all SALA offices at a lower overall cost. The MPLS network also provided for Quality of Service (QoS) in the network and enabled SALA to implement a Voice over IP solution which resulted in additional cost savings.

"New Edge took care of everything. The MPLS solution provided the voice quality that improved communication among our staff and the bandwidth for real-time access to centralized databases from remote and rural locations," said Maria Gonzalez, Information Technology lead overseeing SALA's networking services. "New Edge's customer service has been great. Our dedicated account manager is very proactive and the MyEdge portal provides easy access to our network information which has reduced the demands on our IT department."

New Edge Networks President Cardi Prinzi added, "SALA's work is important in its community and we are proud to have provided a solution that enables this organization to be more effective while also reducing its overall network operating costs. With an MPLS solution now in place, as its organization grows, SALA can implement more applications and additional locations quickly and cost efficiently."
