New England Law | Boston Expands Merit-Based Scholarship Offerings

BOSTON, Nov. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- New England Law | Boston, the only independent, ABA-accredited law school in Massachusetts, today announced that it has expanded its merit-based scholarship offerings. Beginning immediately, and moving forward, all New England Law applicants will be eligible for scholarship consideration based on their academic and/or professional accomplishments.

New England Law prides itself on its long history of providing opportunity for those who may not otherwise be able to attend law school. In 1908, the school was founded as Portia Law School, the first and only law school established exclusively for the education of women. Since then, the school has become coeducational (in 1938) and remains committed to increasing ethnic and cultural diversity in the legal field. Today, racial minorities make up approximately 30 percent of New England Law's student body. Additionally, many New England Law students are "first-generation," meaning they are the first in their families to enroll in a graduate program; some are the first in their families to graduate from an undergraduate school.

The new scholarships, which will award up to $15,000 in tuition and fees to eligible applicants, will help lessen the financial burden of law school. The new scholarships include:

• Law School Housing Scholarship: Applicants moving a significant distance (twenty-five miles or more) to attend New England Law may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Nontraditional Law Student Scholarship: Applicants who may be several years out of undergrad, older, and/or starting a second career may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Scholarship for Massachusetts State College Graduates: Applicants who graduated with an undergraduate degree from any four-year Massachusetts state school may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Public Interest Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in public interest law may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Intellectual Property (IP) Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in intellectual property law may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship (undergraduate degree in engineering and/or PhD preferred).
• Immigration Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in immigration law may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• International Student Scholarship: Non-US applicants may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Criminal Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in criminal law and litigation may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
• Tax Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in tax and/or estate planning are eligible for this merit-based scholarship (CPA preferred).
• Environmental Law Scholarship: Applicants with a background and/or interest in environmental or energy law may be eligible for this merit-based scholarship.
