New Festival Celebrates Clearwater's Famous "Sugar Sands"
NEW YORK, April 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The City of Clearwater, Fla. will host the first ever Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival, a ten-day celebration of Clearwater's award winning beaches. A new addition to the annual Fun 'n Sun Festival of music concerts and other family-friendly entertainment, this sand sculpting exhibit and interactive experience will provide ample reason to extend spring vacation season for the whole family. The event will take place on Clearwater Beach from April 19 – 28, 2013 and is co-hosted by Sunsets at Pier 60, Clearwater's daily celebration of its picture perfect sunsets.
Located just south of Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach, 1,000 tons of Clearwater Beach's world famous sugar sands will be creatively carved into the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, an artistic walk-through display in a 12,000-square-foot tent. In addition, Frenchy's Sugar Sand Festival will offer a variety of free activities on Clearwater Beach for all ten sand-filled days including the Frenchy's Master Sand Sculpting Competition, Sugar Sand & Sculpting Clinics, Clearwater Gas Speed Sand Demonstrations, the Camp Hyatt Sand Box children's play area, CCM Sugar Sand Photo Opportunity, Clearwater Marine Aquarium night at Sunset Cinema, Sugar Sand Circus, Sunsets at Pier 60, Bright House Networks Sand Blast Fireworks and more. Many local businesses are embracing the celebrations with special 'Sugar Sand Moments,' unique discounts and promotions for guests at the Sugar Sand Festival. Nightly sunset festivals at Pier 60 celebrate Clearwater's world famous sunsets, that spectacular moment when the orange sun melts into the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
The ten-day festival will celebrate all that is great about Clearwater beach, demonstrating why USA Today readers named Clearwater the Best Beach Town in Florida. This year's celebrations are especially timely in that they also mark the 60th Anniversary of the Fun 'n Sun Festival, and the 500th Anniversary of Florida.
The Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. except for opening day, April 19 when the exhibit will open at noon. Cost of admission is $7 for adults; $5 for students ages 13-18; $5 for military personnel and seniors; and free for children 12 and under.
