New Foreign Policy Organization Announces Distinguished Board of Advisors, National Network of Chapters
WASHINGTON, Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) has announced the formation of its board of advisors and the launch of chapters at 26 top colleges and universities and in major cities (please see below). AHS is a new, independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting constructive debate on basic principles and contemporary issues in foreign, economic, and national security policy.
"Since 9-11, events have raised pressing questions about the sources, limits, proper uses, and future trajectory of American power, yet a much-needed rethinking of critical areas of our policy has not taken place," says Aaron Friedberg, AHS co-founder and professor of politics and international affairs at Princeton University. "Instead, our national debate has become increasingly polarized and ill-informed."
Founded in March 2010 by Daniel Blumenthal of the American Enterprise Institute, Friedberg, and Roy Katzovicz of Pershing Square Capital Management, AHS and its members are united by basic convictions about the United States and its role in the world.
Seeking to do for its chosen fields what the Federalist Society has done for the law, AHS is building a national network of students, faculty, and professionals, sponsoring debates at colleges and universities, and providing other opportunities for the professional development of its members. During the 2010-11 academic year, AHS's first in full operation, it sponsored 33 events at 15 schools and will double those numbers during the 2011-12 academic year.
"The current flux in our politics gives us a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of leaders as they prepare for public service, academia, law, journalism, or business," says Blumenthal. "By engaging citizens from all walks of life and at every stage in their careers, AHS will lay the ground for a new, post-Cold War consensus on American foreign policy that will prepare us for the challenges of the 21st Century."
