New Hudson Valley Retreat Generates International Buzz
Glenmere Mansion Awarded Many Honors in First Grand Opening Year
CHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than two years after its January 2010 debut, Glenmere Mansion, the sumptuous, European-style 18-room hotel in New York's legendary Hudson Valley, has garnered an impressive collection of accolades from a cross-section of esteemed hospitality industry and media organizations. Glenmere was embraced by Relais & Chateaux, the prestigious international collection of intimate one-of-a-kind hotels and restaurants, in November of 2010; named one of the "Top 10 Boutique Hotels in the World" for 2011 by Gayot Hotel Guides; and designated 2011's "#1 Romantic Destination in the World, 2011" by Hideaways International.
And just this month, the hotel's fine dining restaurant, The Supper Room, received Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence, having already scored the highest rating for decor - 29 - in the 2011 Zagat Survey for Westchester County / Hudson Valley.
"It's incredibly gratifying to be recognized in such a spectacular fashion so early in the game," says Alan Stenberg, co-owner of Glenmere Mansion. "The recognition is testimony to the vision we had for Glenmere when we first discovered it as a dilapidated mansion in 2006 and the commitment of an extraordinary group of people who are devoting their professional lives to Glenmere and its guests."
The achievement is even more remarkable, given that Stenberg and his partner in the venture, Dr. Daniel DeSimone, are new to the hotel business. Glenmere Mansion is the first project for the former public relations company owner and the retired surgeon.
Glenmere's induction into Relais & Chateaux just 11 months after opening is particularly significant, as most properties have to be in operation for several years to meet the association's exacting standards.
"With the fourth quarter completion of our spa, which will include a hammam and feature signature experiences rooted in treatments utilizing hand-crafted, mixed on-site preparations made with regional wines and locally grown flora, we hope Glenmere will continue to be acclaimed as a truly special destination," notes Stenberg.
Set on 150 verdant acres overlooking its picturesque namesake lake, Glenmere Mansion was built in 1911 as the 35-room country retreat of a tycoon. The Italianate structure with its lavish interior details was celebrated as one of the finest country homes in America. Today, as an intimate hotel, it affords guests the singular experience of immersing themselves in the luxurious lifestyle of the Gilded Age.
