New Initiative Aims to Help Schools Respond to Increasing Safety Threats
DALLAS, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IPcelerate, Inc., a provider of advanced unified communications software applications utilizing mobile technology (see IPcelerate UC video), announced today a new initiative for K-12 school districts and higher education institutions to help create safer campuses for students and faculty. The well-established IPsession emergency event management software is now available to Education institutions at no charge. This initiative begins immediately and will be in effect until the current school term completes this summer.
The IPsession software has been implemented in hundreds of schools adopting Cisco unified communications solutions. The software consists of more than 40 applications, with specific modules targeted at RFID integration of emergency / security systems, call monitoring and recording modules, GPS tracking modules, 911 alerting modules and mass alerting modules. Properly configured, IPsession is an effective tool to help schools in the three critical phases of emergency planning: Early Event Detection, Event Notification, and Event Response.
"Schools have been deploying alert notification solutions for years. That's the good news," said Kevin Brown, CEO of IPcelerate. "The downside is that this has often lulled our schools into a false sense of security. Alerting parents and officials when something is happening is only one piece of the puzzle. If we can help them detect a problem sooner, then the alerting process begins sooner, and the response process begins sooner."
Schools are considering a wide range of actions and investments, including armed guards, metal detectors, automated door locking mechanisms, door/glass-breakage sensors, and alerting systems. The IPsession software consolidates these investments into an easily-managed system.
"We don't have any illusions that our software will prevent these horrific situations," continued Brown. "But we also know that these events, which are plaguing our schools, occur quickly. They are often over in minutes. If we can give them back valuable seconds during these events, perhaps responding just seconds sooner can save lives."
