New Jersey Health Foundation Awards $1.1 Million to Advance Research Throughout NJ

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Jan. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New Jersey Health Foundation (NJHF) has awarded more than $1.1 million in its latest funding cycle to advance health-related research in New Jersey, announced President James M. Golubieski.

In a competitive call for applications that garnered nearly 200 submissions, NJHF will award 32 grants to researchers in New Jersey who are working on health related projects that demonstrates exciting potential.

"New Jersey Health Foundation has historically awarded more than $56 million in research grants to promote inventive science projects taking place within our state," explained George F. Heinrich, M.D., vice chair and CEO. "We are proud to support this round of outstanding early stage research projects that may someday lead to innovative medical breakthroughs."

Funding was available for faculty and staff at organizations affiliated with NJHF— Kessler Foundation, Princeton University, Rutgers University, Rowan University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Stevens Institute of Technology.

Grants of up to $35,000 each provide funding for researchers who are targeting a variety of health areas including pain control, prostate and ovarian cancers, thrombosis and cardiovascular disease, traumatic brain injury, insulin resistance, TB, stroke, E.coli infections, asthma and nerve regeneration. Other research funded will advance the development of medical devices such as wearable blood pressure monitors and smart bandages for drug delivery.

North Jersey: Kessler Foundation; Rutgers New Jersey Medical School; The Public Health Research Institute at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School; Stevens Institute Of Technology; New Jersey Institute of Technology                                                 

Central Jersey: Princeton University; Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences; Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey; Rutgers New Jersey Center for Biomaterials; Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy; Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

South Jersey: Cooper Medical School at Rowan University; Rowan College of Engineering, Rowan College of Science and Mathematics; Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine; Rutgers University-Camden
