New North American Publisher for Business Traveler Magazine
Perry Publications Obtains Injunction Against Former Publisher Varquin Enterprises Inc.
LONDON, May 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Perry Publications, Ltd., part of Panacea Publishing, the owner of Business Traveller magazine worldwide, announced today that it has selected the owners of Business Travel Executive as the new publisher of Business Traveler magazine in North America. Perry terminated the former publisher Varquin, which is now under a court order immediately enjoining it from continuing to use the Business Traveler name or anything confusingly similar.
Leveraging the past 20 years of media and marketing experience for the Business Travel community, Jerry Allison and Ross Atkinson of the Intermedia Travel Group, who also publish Business Travel Executive Magazine, are perfectly placed to take the magazine to the next level.
Mr. Allison commented: "This is a great opportunity to further develop this well known brand in North America. By working with the global team at Business Traveller we have access to the largest network of experienced business travel journalists anywhere in the world. Coupled with our existing Business Travel community, there is a tremendous amount of synergies where this relationship adds a great deal of value for everyone involved. With the print publication coming out shortly and the site already available at http://www.businesstravelerusa.com, we look forward to our continued investments that demonstrate greater value to an even larger community."
This new relationship comes as a result of Perry recently terminating its prior licensee, Varquin Enterprises, Inc., for material breaches of their agreement. Varquin disputed that termination, and at Perry's request, the United States District Court of the Southern District of New York issued an emergency order enjoining Varquin Enterprises, Inc. from further publishing any magazine bearing the title Business Traveler or anything confusingly similar thereto, including Business Travel Insider, a new brand Varquin was attempting to launch using the goodwill of the Business Traveller brand without authorization. The court confirmed its order on May 10, 2011.
Julian Gregory, Managing Director of Perry, notes: "I am delighted that the court continued the injunction against Varquin and recognized that their attempt to confuse advertisers with their title Business Travel Insider would have damaged the global Business Traveller brand. Perry Publications is determined to protect its intellectual property now and in the future against any attempts by Varquin or its principals to damage it. I am now looking forward to re-launching our magazine in North America with an experienced publisher, and to continuing our fruitful relationships with advertisers and subscribers from around the world."
