DULUTH, Ga., Jan. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses (America's Best) and nationally renowned standup comedian and radio personality Rickey Smiley are recognizing and saying "thank you" to Debora (Debbie) Moore – a finalist in the national America's Smiliest Role Model Contest – for her work to inspire and mentor children in the New Orleans community.
For nearly three decades, Moore has been faithfully volunteering at the East Jefferson Branch of the YMCA of Greater New Orleans. She has given over 26,000 hours of her time by working side by side with the YMCA staff in multiple areas, but especially in youth services. Many of the children Moore once watched now have children of their own – some of whom Moore cares for now. Earlier in 2014, Moore also received the YMCA of Greater New Orleans Mildred Wild volunteer of the year award.
"During a period when young children must be nurtured and developed, Debbie teaches them the importance of tolerance, understanding and respect for all people," said Moore's nominator Erica Halpern, development coordinator, YMCA of Greater New Orleans. "Even though Debbie was born with a developmental disability, she never allows her differences to hold her back, and she tries to instill this same lesson in the children she looks after each day."
