New Pathian Optimal Building Pressure Control (POBPC®) Process Proven to Help Companies Reduce Overall Energy Usage by up to 30 Percent
Five Customers Received National Recognition From American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) for Reducing Their Energy Consumption
CINCINNATI, May 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Pathian, an energy consultancy specializing in the optimization of complex mechanical systems for large and multi-unit facilities, announced that its Pathian Optimal Building Pressure Control (POBPC®) process has proven to help hospitals reduce their overall energy usage by 25–30 percent. Recently, five of its customers received national recognition by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) for reducing their energy consumption by utilizing the revolutionary POBPC®, a patent pending process and the central component of a sustained approach to HVAC control system optimization that cuts mechanical system energy usage by up to 50 percent.
Every six months ASHE, of the American Hospital Association, recognizes the efforts of individual hospitals as part of the Society's Energy Efficiency Commitment (E2C) program. The program encourages hospitals across the country to reduce their energy consumption by 10 percent or more over a 12-month period in support of the goals of the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® Challenge.
As a result of the POBPC® process, Pathian customers received five of the 14 ASHE E2C awards (35 percent) issued nationally and were recognized by ASHE for their leadership in reducing energy consumption:
- Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati reduced energy use by 30 percent.
- Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati reduced energy use by 25 percent.
- St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital in Edgewood, Ky., reduced energy use by 25 percent.
- St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas Hospital in Fort Thomas, Ky., reduced energy use by 10 percent.
- St. Elizabeth Florence Hospital in Florence, Ky., reduced energy use by 10 percent.
"It's gratifying to receive independent, external validation that our POBPC® process is effective in helping large and multi-unit facilities achieve significant reductions in their energy consumption," said Dan Buchanan, president and founder, Pathian. "In a majority of instances, energy savings are achieved by using an organization's existing equipment and simply fine-tuning the system controls to achieve optimal performance and a fast payback."
The POBPC® process forces a building's ventilation system to only move the amount of air necessary to heat or cool the building. And because it is a repeatable process, potential energy savings can be estimated in advance and compared against peers.
"In much the same way as a lighting retrofit achieves instant and documentable savings," continued Buchanan, "using our POBPC® allows a company to pick the 'low hanging fruit' when it comes to reducing energy usage and receive a full payback in just 4 to 18 months."
