New Pro Bono Award Open for Nominations
CFP Board, Foundation for Financial Planning Support New Award
WASHINGTON, Aug. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Nominations are now open for a new award sponsored by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) and the Foundation for Financial Planning (FFP) that will recognize education institutions that are applying their students' skills and knowledge to give back to their communities.
The first annual Registered Program Excellence in Pro Bono Award will recognize one college or university's CFP Board Registered Program for making significant contributions to pro bono financial planning while providing exceptional experiential learning opportunities to students. The award will be given out yearly.
"Pro bono work is an effective and meaningful avenue for financial planning students to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom to serve those in need. We are thrilled that for the first time we are able to partner with the Foundation for Financial Planning to honor excellence in pro bono financial planning work at one of CFP Board's Registered Programs," said Mary Kay Svedberg, PhD, CFP Board's Director of Education.

"We hope that as more and more financial planning students have meaningful experiences helping underserved members of their communities, they will become committed to a lifetime of pro bono service to others that will truly enhance and elevate the financial planning profession."
The award recipient will receive a $5,000 grant, sponsored by Dalton Education. The award winner will be announced in February 2019 during CFP Board's Registered Programs Conference.
Interested colleges and universities must submit a nomination form (click here for the form) by October 19, 2018 and meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Nominated programs must be actively registered with CFP Board for the entire 2018 calendar year;
- Programs must remain actively registered and in good standing by February 2019;
- Pro bono activities must involve students from CFP Board Registered Programs; and
- The activities must include students providing underserved members of the community (i.e. low income, military personnel/veterans, domestic violence survivors, victims of a natural disaster, individuals facing a serious medical diagnosis) during the period of January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018
