New Program from Virtual Nerd™ Takes Aim at Annual "Summer Slide" Among Math Students
ST. LOUIS, July 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Virtual Nerd™ (www.virtualnerd.com), the interactive math and science tutoring website, today announced its launch of Math Boot Camps to help students avoid the annual erosion, or "slide", of their math skills over the summer months. Virtual Nerd's new five-week boot camps will address the summer slide by assessing a student's baseline knowledge and providing weekly study guides in the form of playlists of interactive tutorials and practice problems.
"Year after year studies show us that most students lose about two months of grade equivalency in math skills during the summer months," commented Virtual Nerd Co-Founder and expert tutor, Leo Shmuylovich. "Math can be challenging enough without having to play catch-up, so we created these boot camps to provide students with a Virtual Nerd experience that is tailored specifically to meet the needs of students and parents during the summer."
Virtual Nerd's Math Boot Camps will be available for Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II. Designed to maintain and sharpen the math equivalency levels achieved by students prior to summer break, the individualized tutoring experience begins with students taking an assessment quiz on VirtualNerd.com. Then, Virtual Nerd sends a weekly playlist of tutorials and practice problems that reinforce and build upon knowledge of key concepts.
"Our intuitive Dynamic Whiteboard® instructional platform provides boot camp students with a very personalized tutoring experience that anticipates their questions and empowers them to close any knowledge gaps, at their own pace and time," commented Shmuylovich.
Each week, students will receive an e-mail with a new playlist that builds on the prior week's concepts. Math Boot Camps wrap up with a final assessment quiz, which allows students and parents to review all the progress made over the summer. Virtual Nerd Math Boot Camps cost $19, and parents can sign their children up by visiting www.virtualnerd.com. Members of the media are invited to experience Virtual Nerd's award-winning Dynamic Whiteboard by contacting [email protected] to request a guest account.
