New Report Reveals That Online Gambling Benefits Off-Line Casinos
GIBRALTAR and LEEDS, England, March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
PokerStrategy.com, the market leading website for advice and coaching in online Poker, today announced that it believes a recent academic study could signal an early change to US laws covering online gambling.
The report, by Kahlil Simeon Philander of the University of Nevada and the renowned expert in the 'economics of Poker', Dr Ingo Fielder of the University of Hamburg, suggests that contrary to perceived opinion, online Poker actually expands the market base enjoyed by off-line casinos, and therefore drives additional business towards traditional gambling businesses.
Commenting on how his findings impact current thinking and lobbying by off-line operators, Dr Fielder said; "Our results show that off-line gambling operators should not be concerned about online Poker but instead welcome it. I am certain that this will be new information to the US Government."
The study made use of the 'Online Poker Database' at the University of Hamburg, the largest of its type in the world. This was used to track the activity of online Poker players, and it revealed that although the amount of additional revenue generated by online gambling is tiny in comparison to off-line casinos, it does increment off-line revenues, not substitute them.
Dominik Kofert, the CEO of PokerStrategy.com, said; "The research makes me hopeful that US off-line casinos will soon start to change their attitudes towards online gambling and see it as an opportunity rather than a threat."
