New Sunday Show Arrives in D.C. -- Ideas in Action With Jim Glassman Debuts in Washington, D.C. September 5, 2010

WASHINGTON and DALLAS, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new show joins Washington's Sunday morning line-up when Ideas in Action with Jim Glassman, a weekly public policy series on ideas and their consequences, launches in the Washington D.C. television market on Sunday, September 5, 2010. The show will air on two public television stations. Howard University Television (WHUT Channel 32) will air the program at 9:30 a.m. and Maryland Public Television (MPT) will air the series at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

Glassman's other television credits include hosting the series TechnoPolitics for PBS, MoneyPolitics for WJLA (Washington D.C.'s ABC affiliate), and Capital Gang Sunday for CNN. He is the former publisher of The New Republic, former President of The Atlantic Monthly Co., and former co-owner and editor of Roll Call, the newspaper about Capitol Hill. He was a weekly columnist for The Washington Post from 1993-2004 and a senior fellow at The American Enterprise Institute from 1996 to 2008. He served as chairman of the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees Voice of America and Radio Free Europe, and as Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. In September 2009 he was named the founding Executive Director of the George W. Bush Institute, the think tank that is part of the Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, which also includes a library and museum.

Episodes are taped in Washington, D.C.'s Newseum studios and on location at the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas. A one topic per episode format sets Ideas in Action apart from other panel programs.

The program that airs on September 5, for example, provides a critical examination of the idea of replacing the current 401(k) with a government-guaranteed alternative retirement plan. Appearing on the program are Teresa Ghilarducci, professor at the New School for Social Research and the author of one such proposal, Alex Brill of The American Enterprise Institute, who was chief economist to the House Ways and Means Committee, and Dallas Salisbury, President and CEO of the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI.)
