AMSTERDAM, Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IBC2014 Conference -- A recent Omnibus survey gives insight into how Millennials aged 18-29 experience and find TV shows. A full 76 percent of Millennials report they discover new shows to watch from friends, family and social media, and 73 percent still watch on a traditional TV set. In addition to watching on a traditional TV, 74 percent also watch content online using a computer, smartphone or tablet. The findings are based upon a survey conducted Aug. 19-24 by ORC International of Princeton, New Jersey.
To address the unique ways Millennials experience TV, RelayTV has launched a new way for viewers to discover TV shows and watch together in a virtual living room setting – all in real-time. RelayTV's fully integrated social TV platform and networking experience for consumers is available now to operators.
RelayTV allows viewers to see what shows their friends are watching, engage with them on the TV directly, and preview and watch with friends wherever they are, as if they were sitting next to each other. By speaking out loud (or laughing) naturally, friends can hear each other through the TV by using the microphone on a remote control or smartphone, allowing them to enjoy the show virtually together, even when physically apart.
The Social TV market is projected to reach $256 billion by 2017 (MarketsandMarkets), but attracting subscribers and connecting them with the content they really want to see – particularly Millennials - is the holy grail for pay-TV operators.
"What drives Millennials is spending time and participating with their friends," said Kye Cheung, CEO of RelayTV. "With this in mind, we developed a social TV solution that allows viewers to check-in, discover, watch together and interact, all in a single unified experience."
RelayTV's powerful content discovery mechanism drives viewer engagement, brings increased value for targeted advertising and stimulates interest and purchase in premium content such as video-on-demand and pay-per-view channels.
RelayTV fully integrates with an operator's network and content. Operators can easily add the solution to their existing service package through flexible software or full set-box capabilities and immediately begin offering their customers the next generation in social TV. RelayTV is available on all screens (tablet, PC, TV) and all formats (live TV, VOD, OTT).
