New Survey Reveals Symptoms Don't Relent After Menopause

Weight Gain and Sleep Trouble Persist Even After Women Think They're Past Menopause, Among Findings from New Nature's Bounty® Brand Survey

BRIDGEWATER, N.J., March 31, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Nature's Bounty®, a leader in scientifically backed vitamin and nutritional supplements, today shared new survey data conducted by Leger on behalf of the brand to better understand women's needs during different stages of the menopausal lifecycle, including peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause.

This new data shows that across all stages of menopause, women experience multiple bothersome symptoms, with as many as 8-10 associated symptoms on average, yet 62% have trouble accessing healthcare for women's health issues and most wait for even the most bothersome symptoms to pass rather than addressing them. These findings highlight the need for individualized support and solutions for women at each lifecycle stage.

Key Findings by Lifecycle Stage
The online survey found that women have different needs at various lifecycle stages.

Peri-menopausal (average age 35+)

• Peri-menopausal women tend to experience more symptoms than women at other menopausal life stages, with sleep problems (64%), weight gain (47%) and hot flashes (52%) among the most prevalent and bothersome symptoms experienced by this cohort.
• Women who self-identified as peri-menopausal are more focused on their mental health and emotional well-being compared to respondents in the other lifecycle stages, as they are also more likely to experience mood changes (53%) and anxiety/depression (49%).

Menopausal (average age 45+)

• Women who are menopausal are more likely to make dietary changes (93%), especially increasing their vitamin D intake (42%), and participate in weight-bearing activities (49%), such as walking, running, and dancing than women at other menopausal life stages. Their focus on mood and anxiety is notably less prevalent than women in peri-menopause.
• Sleep problems (56%), weight gain (43%) and hot flashes (51%) are still top symptoms experienced in this cohort, but joint pain and stiffness (55%) emerge as a top symptom at this stage.

Post-menopausal (average age 50+)

• Women who are post-menopausal tend to see symptoms subside and are less likely to experience forgetfulness and mood changes compared to other menopausal lifecycle stages, but still experience enduring sleep problems (22%), weight gain (24%) and joint pain and stiffness (38%), which they manage with dietary adjustments and exercise, specifically weight-bearing activities (48%).
• Hair loss (22%) is a new and bothersome symptom at this stage, and women who are post-menopausal are also more likely to experience bone density loss (24%) than women in other menopausal life stages.

The online survey gathered responses from women age 35+ who self-identified as one of the following phases (n=150 per phase): peri-menopausal, menopausal or post-menopausal. The survey was conducted in November 2024 by Leger on behalf of the Nature's Bounty® brand.
