New Web Series Answers The Question: Does This Have Gum In It?
WHITE MARSH, Md., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- TIC Gums of White Marsh, MD, is launching a new video series that will once and for all answer the question, does this have gum in it? The videos will describe how the taste, texture and mouth feel of food and beverages are all positively influenced by the presence of gums. Similarly, when gums are absent, the impact is very negative, and the video demonstrates those negative outcomes as well.

There is a lot more to the sense of taste than the addition of flavor. Even food scientists and culinary artists are not knowledgeable about the benefits of gums in their new product inventions or re-launches of re-formulated products. Small adjustments to the texture and/or viscosity of food and beverages (delivered by gums) can be the difference in a positive eating/drinking experience, or not.
The first edition of the monthly series was posted to the TIC Gums web site (www.ticgums.com) in mid-April, 2012. Not coincidentally the topic of the first program was chewing gum and the role gums play adding the candy coating to it.
How The Series Began
After years of questions about whether the company manufactured chewing gum or not (it does not) the time to set the record straight was right. "While we do not manufacture chewing gum, there are many other gum and gum systems we do make that deliver positive attributes to food and beverages," said Harold Nicoll, marketing manager and co-host of the program. "That question became an opportunity for us to communicate more about what we actually do make and the value-added nature of gums for food scientists, culinary artists and ultimately consumers."
Episode I: Candy Coated Gum
Playing off both the title and the question that spawned the program, Nicoll along with co-host and Gum Guru™ Maureen Akins, discuss the use of gums in, well, gum. Akins, who is a food scientist and developer, describes the benefits of using the innovative TicaPAN® Coating System as a way to add the candy shell to gum, candy, nuts, and other snacks. The video includes scenes that were shot in Cologne, Germany during the PROSweets Expo 2012, where TIC Gums introduced the TicaPAN Coating System to Europe.
