NEW YORK, July 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) recognized New York fashion designer Marisol Deluna at its 83rd Annual National Convention & Exposition held in Orlando, Florida on June 29th. Deluna was honored by the organization during its Presidential Awards Banquet held at the Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World.
National LULAC President Margaret Moran awarded Deluna the organization's prestigious Presidential Commendation Medal for her 23 years in fashion and the example she sets for youth.
Deluna stated, "To be recognized by LULAC is an incredibly humbling honor. I am fortunate to support its mission through fashion and mentorship. It is a privilege for each of us to share knowledge selflessly and partake in charitable endeavors whenever possible."
President Moran added, "Through her achievements as a beautiful Latina woman, she lets young women know that they can do it too."
The evening's host, actor Tony Plana, perhaps best known for his role on Ugly Betty noted about his friend, "Marisol balances her creativity with the art of mentoring others."
Deluna designed LULAC's official scarf, neckerchief and tie for the Women's Commission to raise funds and awareness for the organization. These designs were recently included in the Marisol Deluna New York 15th Anniversary Fashion Show held in Manhattan. Marisol wore the scarf redesigned as an elegant floor length skirt at the award ceremony.
