Newly Renovated LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh Suburban Campus Opens Thursday, November 18
Reallocation of beds allows LifeCare to open freestanding hospital in the Allegheny General Hospital Building
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh is opening a newly renovated, freestanding hospital on the fifth floor of the Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Building at 100 South Jackson Avenue. With the opening of this new facility, LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh operates three locations: the Suburban Campus, the recently opened hospital within Alle-Kiski Medical Center at 1301 Carlisle Street in Natrona Heights, and the Main Campus at 225 Penn Avenue.
"LifeCare is pleased to be able to continue to serve North Hills with this new freestanding hospital, especially in light of all of the changes happening at Allegheny General," said LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh Chief Executive Officer Rick Pletz. "With our new facility in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, and now a freestanding hospital at the Suburban Campus, LifeCare is positioned to better meet the needs of medically complex patients throughout the area."
The Grand Opening Celebration will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The entire community is invited to attend. Please RSVP to [email protected].
Services offered at the new hospital on the Suburban Campus will include a high intensity unit for patients recovering from traumatic injury or illness. In the near future LifeCare also plans to broaden its capabilities by opening a behavioral health unit and a skilled nursing center at this location.
Over the past month LifeCare has redistributed beds among three locations in an effort to better serve the community and more fully utilize existing service offerings. Collectively, LifeCare Hospitals' three Pittsburgh locations offer a total of 196 long term acute care beds in a private room setting.
LifeCare specializes in the treatment of medically complex patients who require extended hospitalization. Many of the hospitals' patients are transferred to LifeCare after a stay in an intensive care unit and have often experienced multiple system failures and slow response to traditional medical treatments. Each LifeCare Hospital provides 24-hour physician coverage, an aggressive ventilator weaning program and advanced wound care. The reallocation of resources across the LifeCare network provides an opportunity to serve 118 patients at the Main Campus, 37 patients at the Suburban Campus and up to 41 patients at the Alle-Kiski location.
LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh recently earned the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) award from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), placing LifeCare in an elite group of only 15 percent of hospitals in the United States that have received this honor.
LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh is part of the LifeCare family of hospitals, which includes 20 specialty acute care hospitals in nine states. To learn more about our facilities, visit us on the Web at www.lifecare-hospitals.com. Contact 412-247-2365 for intake and admissions information.
