Newport Healthcare and To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) Mark a Decade of Partnership for Suicide Prevention

Collaboration coincides with TWLOHA's 20th anniversary and features a national suicide prevention awareness campaign and virtual film screening event

That shared conviction is at the heart of Newport Healthcare's continued partnership with To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), now entering its 10th year. During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month this September, the organizations are again joining forces to spread messages of hope, connect people with help, and support access to lifesaving mental health treatment.

The partnership reaches two significant milestones in 2026: a decade of collaboration between Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA, and 20 years since the story that inspired TWLOHA first appeared online. This year's TWLOHA campaign theme, This Is Not the End of Your Story, reinforces a message central to both organizations: that pain does not define a person, support is available, and healing is possible.

The need for connection and accessible care remains urgent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 48,824 people in the United States died by suicide in one recent year. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people ages 10-34. In the CDC's nationally representative survey of U.S. high school students, 20% reported seriously considering suicide and 10% reported a suicide attempt during the previous year. Among young adults ages 18-25, 13% had serious thoughts of suicide and 2% attempted suicide, the highest prevalence of any adult age group. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that 727,000 people die by suicide each year, equivalent to about one life every 43 seconds.

Attendees will view a new documentary exploring TWLOHA's beginnings and 20-year impact, followed by a conversation about the power of working together to build awareness and make a difference. The discussion will be moderated by Newport Healthcare's Manager of Experience and Alumni Relations Sophia Iovenitti, PsyD, and will also include TWLOHA's Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch and Newport's Clinical Services Instructor Jennifer Dragonette, PsyD.
