SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Nexmo, the leading cloud communications company, today announced 2014 results, capping a banner year for the pioneer in mobile and cloud communications. With cloud-based communications at the forefront of the mobile revolution, Nexmo starts the New Year with 100 percent volume growth with 2.8 billion API calls in the last 12 months.
Having grown to over 100 employees, Nexmo continues to disrupt traditional communications. Nexmo APIs enable app developers and enterprises to reach customers globally via innovative mobile text-messaging and voice experiences.
In no industry are cloud-based services positioned to disrupt traditional offerings with a more powerful impact than in communication, the theme of International Data Corporation's (IDC) recent report: "Worldwide Cloud Communications Platforms 2014–2018 Forecast: The Resurgence of Voice and SMS" (doc #250224, August 2014). IDC forecasts that the cloud communications market will grow from global revenue of USD 123.4 million in 2013 to USD 7.5 billion in 2018, i.e. 127.5 percent compound annual growth rate.
As Nexmo continues to scale, the company has grown worldwide in 2014, with its services now used by over 80 percent of the successful over-the-top (OTT) apps in the market today. Other key clients added in 2014 include: Center for Disease Control, ChargePoint, L'Oréal Deutschland GmbH, Mozilla, NetApp, SaS, Thomson Reuters, United Nations, Voyage-group and Zipcar.
"Traditional communication platforms have high setup costs, including expensive equipment for voice communications, and lengthy contracts with carriers or aggregators for SMS communications," said Tony Jamous, CEO, Nexmo. "Conversely, cloud communications offerings combine the benefits of the cloud with the easy integration provided by APIs. We see 2015 as a groundbreaking year for the mobile messaging and cloud-based communications industry with exciting potential. Driven by improved quality-of-delivery, global reach, and local knowledge, we forecast broad adoption of cloud offerings next year."
