Nissan North America Sales Increase 24.1 Percent In May

FRANKLIN, Tenn., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today reported May 2010 sales of 83,764 units versus 67,489 units a year earlier, an increase of 24.1 percent, compared with May 2009.  Nissan Division sales rose 24.1 percent for the month, while sales of Infiniti vehicles were 24.6 percent higher than a year before.

NISSAN HIGHLIGHTS

• Nissan vehicles posted sales of 75,673 units in May compared with 60,993 units sold in May the previous year, a 24.1 percent increase.
• May marks the Nissan division's eighth consecutive month with a year-over-year sales increase.
• The Rogue crossover set a new May record with 8,789 units sold.
• Passenger cars showed strong performance with Versa sales up 95.6 percent, Sentra up 59.6 percent and Nissan's volume-leading Altima up 19.2 percent to 21,950.

INFINITI HIGHLIGHTS

• Infiniti sales for May 2010 were 8,091 units, up 24.6 percent from the 6,496 units sold in the same month a year earlier.
• The launch of the 2011 Infiniti M continues to build momentum, with the model up 61.9 percent over last May.
• The Infiniti G lineup was up 23.6 percent (sedan sales up 16.9 percent; coupe sales up 43.4 percent).

NOTE: To ensure consistency in global sales reporting, Nissan North America calculates monthly variances on a straight-percentage basis, unadjusted for the number of selling days. Both May 2010 and May 2009 had 26 selling days, so there is no variation between the two calculation methods.
