No More Broken Hearts to Host its 4th Annual Fundraiser on World Heart Day, Sept. 29
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- San Jose-based nonprofit No More Broken Hearts will hold its fourth annual fundraiser on Sept. 29, World Heart Day, marking the day with a dinner buffet and dancing to the music of local cover band Pop Fiction. Morteza Naghavi, M.D., founder of SHAPE (Society Heart Attack Prevention and Eradication) will give a speech on who is vulnerable to heart attack. Victoria Dupuy, the founder of No More Broken Hearts, said the event at the Corinthian Grand Ballroom, 196 North 3rd St., will run from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and be hosted by 101.3 iHeart Radio personalities Marcus and Sandy of the Marcus and Sandy Show.
Dupuy said last year's fundraiser raised $30,000. This year's proceeds will be used to fund a mobile heart scan unit to serve the Bay area community. The unit will make it easy to obtain a little-known calcium scoring test that can identify individuals at-risk for heart attacks much earlier than other tests.
Dupuy started No More Broken Hearts after her seemingly healthy husband suddenly died of a heart attack at the age of 46. His death occurred four years ago on World Heart Day. Dean Dupuy was a runner who had been proclaimed in excellent health during a routine physical just a few months before his sudden death. The Dupuys did not know about the Coronary Artery Calcium Scan (CACS) that could have saved Dean's life. The simple, non-invasive and affordable test detects calcified plaque buildup in arteries but is not routinely recommended by physicians.
As a young widow, Victoria Dupuy has made it her mission to learn everything she can about heart attack prevention. Her No More Broken Hearts fundraiser is one of more than a thousand worldwide events commemorating World Heart Day; the holiday's mission is to bring awareness to cardiovascular disease which, the No. 1 killer of people around the world. It accounts for 17.3 million premature deaths.
Every minute of every day a man or woman suffers a heart attack and yet over 80 percent of them can be prevented, Dupuy said, had the individual known they had heart disease. Heart disease is identifiable, measurable and treatable.
