Nobel Learning Communities, Inc. Introduces Character Education Program
National private education provider institutes preschool curriculum to foster social and emotional skills
WEST CHESTER, Pa., Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Children who begin kindergarten with strong social and emotional skills, are more likely to have a successful transition to elementary school and develop positive attitudes toward school and learning. To strengthen its commitment to the development of the well-rounded child, Nobel Learning Communities, Inc. has introduced a new curriculum aimed at providing children with a foundation for good character.
Starting this school year, families and children attending Nobel Learning Communities' preschools across the country (Chesterbrook Academy, Merryhill School, Discovery Isle, Enchanted Care and others) will be introduced to the curriculum that focuses on managing emotions, problem solving, understanding feelings, making friends, listening and resolving conflicts. The expanded character education program uses songs, puppets, games, books and fun activities to teach and reinforce core concepts. The complete program is fully integrated into preschool classrooms, and many of the tools such as vocabulary, empathy, emotion management and friendship skills are introduced to younger children as well.
"We have always been committed to the development of the well-rounded child and our new character education program will support the development of children who are self-aware and sensitive to others' needs," said Patricia B. Miller, chief operating officer for Nobel Learning Communities, Inc. "When children first enter preschool, they are still learning to manage and cope with their emotions. Teaching and developing social-emotional skills is just as important as academic skill development, and through this program, we are strengthening both the mind and the heart."
The character development program will work together with Nobel Learning Communities' signature Links to Learning curriculum. Links to Learning subjects include language and literacy, mathematics, the world and me, wellness, music, art, Spanish and my community and environment. The goals of Links to Learning are to provide a high-caliber, developmentally appropriate education, enhance parent communication, and provide parents with suggested activities to continue the learning at home.
