
North Carolina Youth Rugby Festival to Raise Money for Red Cross
Teams from Canada, Cayman Islands to attend
CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The North Carolina Youth Rugby (NCYR) Union is set to kick off their 2010 annual festival and tournament at 9AM on March 13th and 14th at Elon Park in Charlotte, NC. There will be over 30 teams comprising a cross section of high school men and women teams as well as a contingent of middle school boys. Over 700 players will converge in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte to contend for the related championships of each age bracket. NC Youth Rugby is one of the largest youth league rugby tournaments in the United States. Teams will attend from eight east coast states as well as teams from Canada and The Cayman Islands. The festival is free to spectators, but good sportsmanship and thunderous cheering for the participants is required!
This year the tournament will raise money for the Red Cross to benefit Haiti's Earthquake Relief Fund and the US Samoan Tsunami Relief fund. Volunteers will work a booth to spread awareness, collect funds, and serve Starbucks coffee.
Food vendors at the festival will provide: Hot Dogs and Brats, Nachos, Pizza, soft drinks, and ice cream.

North Carolina Youth Rugby, a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, is a State Based Rugby Organization operating under the authority of USA Rugby, the governing body for rugby, which is a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Rugby Board (IRB). The organization is responsible for the development of boy's, girl's, high school, and youth club athletic programs in North Carolina, and all of the State teams representing North Carolina in national competition.
