Consequences of Untreated Sleep Apnea
According to a study that was published in the journal "Neurology" found that older men with sleep apnea may be more vulnerable to dementia. While experts did not directly link sleep disorders with dementia, the researchers found that men with lower blood oxygen levels during sleep were dramatically more likely to suffer from microinfarcts, or mini strokes, that caused brain damage. Microinfarcts often precede dementia and can lead to brain lesions and atrophy. Other recent studies have linked sleep apnea to reduced fertility and impaired exercise capacity.
Dr. Arami, and his associate Dr. Ariz offer sleep apnea treatments that can improve sleep quality. Oral appliances have been shown to be effective in patients with mild or moderate sleep apnea. They can also be beneficial for patients who are unable to tolerate traditional PAP therapy. Visit http://www.dentistnorthridge.net for more information.
