Northwest Federal Credit Union Helps Girl Scout Troop Earn Badge with Branch Tour and Discussion
MANASSAS, Va., May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwest Federal Credit Union hosted a tour, presentation and discussion at its Manassas Branch for Girl Scout Junior Troop 2857, helping them cover requirements toward their Consumer Power Badge.
The troop of girls from Pennington Traditional School and Round Elementary received a behind-the-scenes tour of the branch and participated in discussions about the role of money, the importance of saving, as well as smart spending and advertising awareness.
Troop leader Robyn Weber commented that the girls learned a great deal and were excited for the opportunity to earn a new badge. "Northwest Federal Credit Union put on a wonderful tour for my Junior Troop. The staff kept the girls interested and involved," she said.
As part of the branch tour, NWFCU Manassas Branch Manager Pattie Caruso gave the girls an up close look at the security features of money under the ultraviolet lights using a device known as a fraud fighter. She also gave the girls a peek at the branch's cash vault. "It was enjoyable to see the girls' eyes light up when they saw the money in the vault! They seemed excited to learn and were very interested in looking at all the special security features of currency."
In addition to learning about the security features of money and where money is printed, the troop also talked with presenters about the role of money in society and participated in an exercise to help the girls understand why money has value.
When the tour and discussions had concluded, the girls were given the opportunity to work on an art project where they could design their own imaginary currency. Some of their creations are currently on display at NWFCU's Manassas branch.
