Northwestern University Launches Certificate in Mobile App Development
BEGINS FALL 2013
CHICAGO, Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies is launching a new professional development certificate program in mobile app development this fall. The Mobile App Developer program—the first of its kind in Chicago—is project-based and can be completed in as little as six months. Courses in September and November are open for registration on a limited enrollment basis.
The Mobile App Developer certificate was developed for coders and entrepreneurs with programming knowledge who may want a professional certification or more experience in seeing an idea through prototyping, coding and delivery into the marketplace.
To earn the certificate, students complete five courses, spanning topics from wireframing to user interface design, and programming for Android or iOS devices. The curriculum also includes courses in project management and user analytics. In class, students are encouraged to work on a real-world project from their professional experience.
"Other programs of this type teach only mobile coding and design, but our program provides students access to experts and mentors from the start-up tech scene in Chicago," said Director of Professional Programs Adam Kashuba. "Our students leave equipped to create compelling, well-developed apps that can compete for capital funding in a crowded landscape."
Like other professional programs offered by Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies, the program's format is designed with the needs of working adults in mind. Courses meet in person every three to five weeks for lectures and hands-on experiences. In between class meetings, students work on their projects and meet with their instructors during assigned office hours using Blackboard, email or Skype to check the status of their project and to receive feedback and mentoring.
