Not Exactly Cooperstown Goes to Cooperstown for Screening at the National Baseball Hall of Fame
New baseball documentary offers unorthodox look at America's beloved pastime
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Not Exactly Cooperstown, a feature-length documentary about "the People's Hall of Fame," the Baseball Reliquary, will screen at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's 8th annual Baseball Film Festival on Sunday, September 29 in Cooperstown, New York.
Not Exactly Cooperstown is an unorthodox look at America's most orthodox game. It's one fan's journey to discover the heart and soul of baseball through an unexpected source: a non-profit grassroots outfit that focuses on the human side of the game and its impact on American culture. In addition to players, the Reliquary honors fans, baseball researchers and authors, and has inducted umpires, owners and mascots into their "Shrine of the Eternals."
Quirky, funny and poignant, Not Exactly Cooperstown is a bold stew of Americana, folklore, sex, religion, scandal, poetry, sport and art.
The film's producer-director, Jon Leonoudakis, will travel to Cooperstown to participate in the festival's activities and a post-screening Q&A session. "I've always wanted to visit Cooperstown, and this is a dream come true," said the filmmaker.
The 69-minute film has been shown throughout California for the past year, and audience response has been "tremendous," according to Leonoudakis. "From San Diego to San Francisco, our screenings have turned into ad hoc baseball parties, with people sharing stories and making friends. I've had people come up after a screening and tell me they don't even like baseball, but they love the stories presented in the film." Stories like Steve Dalkowski and his 120 m.p.h. fastball, the relic known as "the Walter O'Malley Tortilla," and a box of baseballs autographed by Mother Teresa.
