RADNOR, Pa., June 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott C. Malpass, vice president and chief investment officer at the University of Notre Dame, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of TIFF Advisory Services Inc. (TAS), the primary regulated investment advisor within the TIFF organization. More than 700 U.S. non-profits entrust about $9.5 billion in assets, including committed capital, to TIFF.
Mr. Malpass, who was elected to the TAS Board in 2011, will succeed Collette Chilton, chief investment officer at Williams College, as Board Chair, effective in early September. Ms. Chilton will remain on the TAS Board.
"The non-profits that make up TIFF's membership have a tremendous ally in Scott Malpass, and we are deeply grateful to him for agreeing to serve as Board Chair," said Richard J. Flannery, TAS's CEO. "His experience, wisdom, and skill have been critically important to TIFF, and he will continue the tradition of exemplary Board leadership provided by Collette Chilton and her predecessors."
"Having another successful endowment investor in a leadership role at TIFF is enormously helpful," said TIFF Chief Investment Officer Jay Willoughby. "Scott understands the important mission TIFF pursues helping non-profits, our investment approach, and the market nuances we attempt to mine on behalf of endowed charities."
At Notre Dame, where he has been CIO since 1989, Mr. Malpass is responsible for investment of the university's endowment, working capital, pension, and life income assets of some $10.6 billion as of the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015. He is a concurrent assistant professor of finance in the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame.
Mr. Malpass is a 1984 Notre Dame graduate and received an MBA degree from the university in 1986. He returned in 1988 from the Wall Street firm Irving Trust Company and became CIO the following year, when the university's endowment stood at $425 million. Mr. Malpass received the Large Endowment Manager of the Year award from Institutional Investor magazine in 2011 and was named recipient of Chief Investment Officer magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
Mr. Malpass is a director or advisory council member for several investment and charitable organizations. He serves on the investment advisory committee for Major League Baseball. In 2012, he was elected to the Board of Directors for The Vanguard Group, Inc.
