NRI Offers Guidance to Implement Newly Mandated HBIPS Psychiatric Quality Measures to Ensure Compliance
NRI, a key member in the development of the Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS) core measure set, provides expertise to assist inpatient psychiatric facilities with effective data collection, practice management, and quality improvement related to the mandatory HBIPS measures for quality reporting.
WASHINGTON, Oct. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As one of the founding partners of a unique public-private collaboration to advance performance measurement in behavioral health, the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors Research Institute, Inc. (NRI) has served freestanding psychiatric hospitals using the Hospital-Based Inpatient Psychiatric Services (HBIPS) core measure set since its inception in 2007. With over two decades of experience providing on- and off-site technical assistance to behavioral healthcare facilities, NRI has been instrumental in helping facilities determine how to effectively meet the HBIPS mandate. Not simply a data compilation center, experts at NRI are committed to helping hospital staff clearly understand and successfully implement the HBIPS measures, as well as integrate HBIPS into current quality improvement initiatives.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that all inpatient psychiatric facilities that bill under the Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities Prospective Payment System must report HBIPS data, beginning with October 2012 data. Failure to comply will result in a 2% reduction of a facility's annual federal payment rate update.
"NRI is committed to helping inpatient psychiatric facilities continuously improve both care and accountability," states Interim Executive Director Michael Lane, M.P.H. "Our highly-trained staff provides technical expertise and resources to ensure that psychiatric facilities are able to efficiently and effectively navigate the challenging HBIPS maze to attain complete compliance with the mandate."
Inpatient psychiatric facilities interested in learning more about how NRI can help them understand and implement the HBIPS measures should contact Dr. Lucille Schacht at 703.738.8163.
