NSU Resources Discusses Rare Earth Element Extraction Process And Intellectual Property Protection Strategy

SAULT STE MARIE, Ontario, July 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- NSU Resources Inc. (NOST: OTCQB) reported today on its process for the extraction of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) to address issues associated with the current economic and technological limitations associated with the extraction of REEs. The separation of natural REE mixtures into individual elements is very difficult to achieve due to the similarity of their chemical and physical properties.  This has frustrated the efforts of those who have attempted the economic recovery of rare earth metals from various ores with concentrations thresholds of less than 4-5% Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO). 

The Company has acquired extraction technologies that will permit to purify REEs using processes that have been used for years by the pharmaceutical industry to purify rare compounds from plant tissues.

The company has drafted but not submitted a patent application for the purification of REEs. The company will further refine the process to meet the specific mineral composition of its mineral claims in Colchester County, Nova Scotia and that of other commercial projects owned by other companies.  Such process will permit construct a business plan.

This process will be the object of international protection through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) (http://www.wipo.int/pct/en/) which will provide protection for 36 months in the 143 member countries of the PCT.  Immediately thereafter, the company will enter into the national phase of patent protection in Canada, the United States, European Union and other countries as we see the need to protect the company's interest. This intellectual property offers significant business advantages for the company. In the short term, we will continue our research efforts with our internal team and external scientists to continue developing the process for the purpose of reducing the extraction costs of rare earth metals from various mineralogical matrices.  In the mid-term we will offer purification services and/or license our technology for the purpose of generating revenues from other industry stakeholders.  In the long term we will use our technology to extract our own resources based on positive exploration results.
