NSU to Host TEDMED Broadcast

University to stream live HD simulcast of elite conference featuring presenters who are innovators and luminaries from health and medicine

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla., March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nova Southeastern University (NSU) has been selected by TEDMED to host the live broadcast of its exclusive conference featuring health and medicine titans from April 10 to 13. All sessions of the broadcast will take place at NSU's Health Professions Division's Chancellor's Dining Room.

TEDMED talks are unlike what is seen at any other medical conference. Past TED Talks have been downloaded more than 500 million times because they feature world-class speakers who talk about "ideas worth spreading" in powerful, but brief (3 to 18 minutes) presentations. This year, TEDMED is providing a live simulcast of its speakers to select hospitals and universities across the country. Conference speakers will include directors of major federal agencies and research institutes as well as top researchers from academia.

"Participating in TEDMED Live doesn't just offer access to speakers who are pioneers and thought leaders in health and medicine, it can also bring people together from different areas of NSU and the community to promote conversation and collaboration," said Kevin A. Clauson, Pharm.D., director of the Center for Consumer Health Informatics Research, an NSU College of Pharmacy center that was awarded the TEDMED broadcast.

NSU attendees can actively engage with the event by sending questions to speakers and taking advantage of other interactive elements through the TEDMED Connect app, which will be available through the iTunes and Android app stores.

Additionally, because NSU was selected to host a TEDMED Live event, one faculty member and one student from NSU have priority eligibility to apply for a half ($2,475) or full ($4,950) scholarship to attend the actual TEDMED conference at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
