.Nxt conference to explore Internet domain explosion
With nearly 2,000 applications for Internet extensions, London conference will be first to look at future of the domain name system
LONDON, June 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- A revolution in the Internet's naming systems will soon change how we all interact online. The .Nxt conference will explore the business of new top-level domains August 29-31 at the Victoria Park Plaza in London. The agenda has been announced and early registration is open.
An explosion in new Internet extensions - with all applications to be announced later today - will bring with it a radical change in not only the Internet's naming systems but also the way the network's seven billion users interact with one another and the Internet itself.
There are currently fewer than 300 Internet extensions. That will explode to more than 2,000 in just two years.
The world's biggest brands will soon have their own online suffixes, slowly bringing an end the dot-com era; cities will have a specific Internet identity; and radical and innovative new uses of the Internet's naming systems will bring about changes that will make the Internet of tomorrow almost unrecognizable.
The .Nxt conference is the third to cover the new gTLD program and will be its biggest yet with leading names from the Internet, political, business, media and academic worlds taking part in 24 sessions over three days.
