NYSCOPBA Veterans Committee Sponsors Wounded Warrior Golf Championship in Canton
CANTON, N.Y., Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The New York State Correction Officers & Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) announced today it will sponsor the Salute the Military Golf Association (SMGA) wounded warrior golf championship for the third consecutive year. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Partridge Run Golf Course in Canton, NY.
The SMGA is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide rehabilitative golf experiences for combat-wounded veterans in an effort to improve the quality of life for these American heroes.
"NYSCOPBA's Veterans Committee is proud to sponsor the 2013 Salute the Military Golf Association's wounded warrior golf tour," John Gavin, NYSCOPBA Central Region Vice President, said. "We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to these soldiers and veterans for their service."
According to Gavin, two teams, including 6 NYSCOPBA members who are veterans, will each play a round with wounded warriors during the event.
The SMGA believes the rehabilitative benefits of golf can improve the mental and physical condition of each and every wounded warrior returning from combat. The SMGA provides golf instruction, equipment, and playing opportunities for combat-wounded American veterans injured in combat.
Through its Veterans committee, NYSCOPBA proudly supports veterans and active duty military members, on an ongoing basis, by providing care packages to NYSCOPBA members during deployments, and offering a yearly veteran's remembrance tour to significant historic sites. NYSCOPBA members at each facility also routinely provide direct assistance to service members and their families on an individual basis before, during and after deployments.
