NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Professionals seeking to advance in today's competitive global environment now have a new option: uniquely designed programs from NYU Law's Institute for Executive Education (IEE). Led by Faculty Director Gerald Rosenfeld and Executive Director Erin O'Brien, the institute is offering open-enrollment classes for individuals who are seeking to advance their careers, as well as custom classes for organizations looking to offer training to address specific organizational needs.
"I am excited about this opportunity to advance our mission," said NYU Law Dean Trevor Morrison. "IEE leverages the expertise of NYU Law's faculty to help organizations address an increasingly complex challenge: how to navigate today's global legal and business environments."
The target audience for IEE's courses includes practicing lawyers who are seeking leadership positions within their organizations, business executives looking to gain legal literacy in particular areas, and policy makers and government officials who need to understand legal issues affecting their missions.
Essentials of Business Law, currently enrolling students for June, will be IEE's first open-enrollment course. The intensive five-day program is designed to introduce foreign-trained attorneys to crucial elements of business law practice in the United States. Led by Beller Family Professor of Business Law Kevin Davis, prominent NYU Law faculty members and area practitioners will present topics such as corporate law and governance, mergers and acquisitions, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and its enforcement, and corporate compliance.
IEE's first customized program, developed with the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, will focus on the law and practice of the UN. Enrolling diplomats from the UAE and other nations, the program will offer an intensive briefing on various issues, from the legal ramifications of Security Council sanctions to the immunities and privileges of international organizations. Herbert and Rose Rubin Professor of International Law Jose Alvarez will lead a distinguished group of NYU Law faculty members and other experts in teaching the program, which will be offered in seven sessions from February through June.
IEE is also in discussions to develop courses on a variety of technology-related issues. Programs in development include an introduction to US intellectual property law for foreign attorneys and an exploration of emerging issues in cybersecurity.
