Oakland Alta Waverly Fire: Wood Partners Expresses Gratitude to Firefighters for Swift and Thorough Response

OAKLAND, Calif., July 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Wood Partners, a national real estate developer and owner, expressed its gratitude today to the more than 80 firefighters, as well as first responders, who successfully contained a four-alarm fire at their construction site in Downtown Oakland early Friday morning.

"Thanks to the incredible efforts of the Oakland Fire Department, the Oakland Police Department, the Alameda County Fire, Berkeley Fire Department, Albany Fire Department, and Alameda Fire Department the fire at Alta Waverly has been contained," said Brian Hansen, Development Director for Wood Partners' West Region. "Their rapid and heroic response ensured no injuries were sustained and that nearby buildings were safely evacuated."

The 196-unit property, which also included 31,000 sq. ft. of retail space, located at 23^rd and Valdez in Downtown Oakland was under construction and unoccupied when the fire began at approximately 4:50 a.m. An estimated 100 nearby residents were evacuated in early hours and a Red Cross shelter was set up at Christ the Light Cathedral. By approximately 8 a.m., the fire was deemed "under control" by the Oakland Fire Department and several residents were allowed to return to their buildings. Due to continued Fire Department activity in the area, some structures are still off limits.
