Goff, who gave the keynote speech at the 2013 CDO Summit, worked with a 200+person team that employed ground-breaking digital strategies to raise $690 million for the Obama 2012 campaign. His efforts also resulted in the registering of more than 1 million voters online, enticing millions of Facebook and Twitter followers, creating innovative digital fundraising tools, and mobilizing hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
"I can think of no more deserving person to receive this award than Mr. Goff, who used the latest tools and technologies to help elect, and then reelect, the leader of the free world," said David Mathison, founder and curator of the CDO Club.
"Teddy's work demonstrates the increasing importance of digital, social, mobile, geo-location, micro-targeting, and other online tools and strategies, not just in political campaigns, but in business and society overall. These strategies can be used by individuals, nonprofits, and for-profits alike to increase awareness and improve audience engagement," Mathison added.
At his keynote address at the 2013 CDO Summit, Goff shared his teams' digital strategies for messaging, organizing, and fundraising. He detailed how he kept supporters "inspired, giving, and sharing" by figuring out what content motivated them to engage in discussions about Obama with their friends. He also told the audience that despite the enormous changes brought about by the digital revolution, "people want the same things they always wanted: to be inspired, to have connections, and to read, watch, write, and do interesting stuff."
"Arguably, Teddy Goff served as the CDO to our nation's CEO, and on behalf of the members of the CDO Club, it is an honor to recognize him and his team for their herculean accomplishments with this inaugural award," said Mathison.
The CDO Club will announce the Chief Digital Officer of 2014 at the CDO Summit April 22-23 at Time Warner in NYC.
