"We are honored to have Dr. Ward join our advisory board and support our product development," said Hilary Jensen Wade, CEO of Obe Inc. "Adding Dr. Ward's insights to our products and ProBowl algorithm is like giving any dog owner access to expert advice, every day."
Dr. Ernie Ward is an internationally recognized veterinarian known for his work in the areas of small animal practice, the special needs of senior dogs and cats, and pet obesity. He established the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention in 2005 and is the author of the 2010 book, Chow Hounds: Why Our Dogs are Getting Fatter.
"Basing feeding and drinking guidelines on the latest scientific research is critical to providing the best care for our pets," said Dr. Ward. "More than half of U.S. cats and dogs are overweight or obese. Feeding your pet the right amount of food as their needs change from puppy to senior can help them live healthier, happier and longer lives."
The patent-pending ProBowl connects to a home's Wi-Fi network and provides real-time, up-to-the-minute alerts on a dog's eating and drinking habits. It weighs and measures the amount of food and water consumed for the best accuracy and its modern design includes a reassuring "Say When" light that glows when the pup parent has reached the right serving size for their dog.
ProBowl is now available for pre-order in the U.S. and UK for $169 per pair. All Obe ProBowls work with wet, dry, raw and freeze-dried food – as well as water – and feature a dishwasher and microwave-safe bowl. The durable, rubberized smart base means the bowl stays put, wherever it's set up in the home. ProBowl is powered by (4) AA batteries, so there are no wires or need for plugs. The ObeDog smart app works with iOS and an Android version will be coming soon.
Obe ProBowl is the industry's first "smart" dog bowl, and has raised $52,395 since the launch of its Indiegogo campaign two months ago, beating its goal of $50,000.
