Ocean House Management Collection Announces "Call For Entries" For New Artist In Residence Program
WATCH HILL, R.I., Jan. 18, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean House Management (OHM) Collection, operators of the Relais & Châteaux Ocean House, Weekapaug Inn and Watch Hill Inn, in Westerly, Rhode Island today announced plans for a new Artist in Residence Program and a "call for entries" for its 2018 program.
The iconic Forbes Triple Five Star Ocean House is seeking artisans for the new Artist in Residence. The program is a collaboration with Ocean House that celebrates the arts, fosters creativity and advances arts education. The goal is for the 2018 program to feature notable artisans, all of whom will be showcased and will stay at Ocean House's historic School House Cottage, located next to the resort. The goal is to select artists and artisans who are creative and engaging, help them receive exposure and in return, guests and the community are enlightened with art information and education.
Four artisans will be chosen from a pool of applicants, and given the use of the School House Cottage for an extended weekend of workshops, exhibits and receptions this Fall.
"The Ocean House Artist in Residence program is an exciting way to support and showcase the arts while giving guests of all ages a unique memory of our destination," said Daniel Hostettler, President and Group Managing Director of the Ocean House Collection. "Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the creative process and build a personal connection with artists they may not ordinarily have met."
In addition to providing the School House Cottage and studio space, the Artist in Residence will receive complimentary accommodations and meals during their extended weekend at Ocean House, and will also receive a $500 stipend. A legacy piece will be created and donated to be on display permanently at Ocean House.
The selection of artisans will begin with the Artist-in-Residence Program committee, including Jeanne Potter, art curator and director of art education at Ocean House, art enthusiasts, and hotel managers. Finalists will be selected, and the winners will be announced on April 2, 2018.
Ocean House is accepting applications for interested artisans and welcomes creators specializing in a wide variety of media including but not limited to decorative art, sculptures, furniture, jewelry, food items, tools and musical instruments.
Artisans who would like to be considered for the program can download an application by visiting https://www.oceanhouseri.com/artist-in-residence or emailing [email protected]. Applications are due no later than March 1 at Ocean House, One Bluff Avenue, Westerly, RI 02891.
The Artist in Residence program is part of Ocean House Collection's larger commitment to the community and the arts. Over the last eight years, thousands of guests and community members have enjoyed art and programming at the Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn.
Inspired by the generosity of OHM Founders Charles and Deborah Royce and their passion for the arts, Ocean House programs include complimentary "Up Close and Personal" educational events, summer weekend artist receptions, seasonal exhibits and galleries, art classes, sponsorship of the now annual "Fresh Off the Easel" event in Watch Hill, and permanent collections of more than 250 works from the 19th century through the 1990s.
