OTTAWA, Ontario, Sept. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Conatus Creative Inc. has launched a Kickstarter campaign, running until October 9th, 2013, for an officially licensed sequel to the NES cult classic, River City Ransom. The studio has reached 51% of its $180,000 CAD funding goal at press time, with approximately half of the campaign to go.

The team has recruited Yoshihisa Kishimoto, the creator of the original Kunio-kun game series and the director of Double Dragon, to help achieve consistency with the source material. Campaign staff highlights include Dustin Crenna, sound designer with credits on Halo 4, BioShock 2 and The Darkness II, and Rich Vreeland (aka Disasterpeace), music composer of FEZ.
The company has committed to releasing the game's engine as open source software, in an effort to give back to the Kickstarter and game development communities. "Kickstarter is about bringing projects to life that couldn't exist any other way. While launching video games on Kickstarter is evolving into a pre-order exercise with nearly complete games, we are truly bootstrapping this effort, and want to give something back beyond simply releasing a commercial game to market, which benefits us. We want to increase the utility of other developers beyond ourselves if we reach our goals," said Daniel Crenna, founder of Conatus Creative and producer on the game.
River City Ransom: Underground is scheduled for release in Summer 2014 if successful on Kickstarter. For more information, tune in to the Kickstarter at http://kck.st/1e9tgOq, visit rivercityransom.com, or follow River City Ransom on Twitter.
