Ohio Catholic FCU Awards $20,000 in Grants to Local Catholic Schools
CLEVELAND, Aug. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In keeping with its commitment to support Catholic education, Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union has awarded Catholic school grants in the amount of $10,000 to Lakewood Catholic Academy in Lakewood and St. Barnabas Catholic School in Northfield. Grant applications were available to all Catholic elementary and high schools throughout the State of Ohio.
Lakewood Catholic Academy will utilize the grant money for resources relating to its adoption of an International Baccalaureate program for middle school students. The resources include funding for new textbooks for students, teaching materials for teachers, and professional development training for staff.
Brian Sinchak, president of Lakewood Catholic Academy, noted that the grant money will be utilized to "completely redesign the middle school experience for students in grades 5-8." In the spring of 2017, Lakewood Catholic Academy will become the first Catholic middle school in the state of Ohio to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
St. Barnabas Catholic School will utilize the grant money to update computer hardware and software throughout the school and help provide 1:1 technological capabilities for students in the upper grades. Principal Tom McFadden stated that the goal of the technology plan is "to enrich the academic environment by preparing students, administrators, staff, and volunteers to utilize technology to meet the challenges of a changing global society."
