SHAFTESBURY, England, April 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Dorset based holiday cottage company Hideaways report an increase in bookings from EU nationals.
Self catering holiday cottage company Hideaways has seen an increase in the number of bookings coming from European residents looking to combine a holiday in the United Kingdom with the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour in Dorset are the host venues for all sailing competitions during these events, thanks to the huge number of vantage points for watching the action take place out on the water. The area has been described as a natural amphitheatre, which will allow all visitors to experience the events - even those who couldn't afford a ticket to the Olympic Games. The site has already held many international sailing competitions and will host 13 events during the Olympics.
The implications of this choice of venue are becoming apparent already. Tourism in the Weymouth and Portland Harbour areas is rapidly increasing, and the number of bookings to hotel and holiday cottage companies in the area is growing by the day.
Owner of Hideaways, Nick Pash, said:
"We have seen an increase in the number of bookings for our holiday cottages in Dorset from people that are planning on attending the events in Weymouth and Portland."
"There have been more bookings from European visitors, who have said they are combining their trips to the games with a holiday in Dorset." he added.
Although the Olympic Games are undoubtedly a huge factor in this tourism boom, Dorset has plenty of attractions of its own to offer holiday-makers. From the Jurassic coastline to ancient castles and hill forts, the county has a wide range of activities and hot-spots for European tourists to take in during their stay.
