On 988 Day, Vibrant Emotional Health Reminds Everyone: With 988 Reasons to Reach Out, Your Reason is Reason Enough

National Day of Awareness highlights the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and encourages people to reach out for support whenever they need it

NEW YORK, Sept. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, September 8 (9/8), Vibrant Emotional Health (Vibrant), the nonprofit administrator of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, joins the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and communities across the country in recognizing 988 Day, a national day of awareness led by SAMHSA to highlight the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the importance of making mental health support accessible to everyone.

This year's theme, 988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough, serves as a reminder that someone does not have to be in crisis to reach out to 988 via call, text or online chat. Whatever they're facing, whether a difficult moment, feeling overwhelmed, supporting someone they care about, or simply needing someone to talk to, their reason for seeking support is reason enough.

The 988 Lifeline has become an essential part of our country's behavioral health infrastructure, and its continued growth reflects a foundational truth: people deserve timely, compassionate support when and where they need it," said Dr. Cara A. Since the transition to the three-digit number in July 2022, the 988 Lifeline has routed nearly 30 million calls, texts and chats, connecting people with trained crisis counselors for mental health and substance misuse support and resources through its nationwide network.
