PITTSBURGH, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The proposed $90 million One Grandview development has moved another step closer following Pittsburgh City Council's approval of a necessary zoning change for the Mt. Washington condominium/hotel project.
"I want to express our thanks to City Council, the City Planning Department, Mayor Ravenstahl, and especially the residents of Mt. Washington who have been so supportive of this development," said Steve Beemsterboer, president of Sycamore Grandview Development. "We had nearly 30 meetings with the community and adjusted our project to meet their concerns particularly in dealing with the mass and scale of the project."
"We put together a great team for this project led by Luke Desmone of Desmone Associates Architects, my son Beau and attorney Kevin McKeegan of Meyer Unkovic & Scott," he said. "It's taken five years to get to this stage and now we're anxious to move forward."
Demolition of the former Edge Restaurant, the key property at the site, could begin this spring with construction getting underway next year.
The 20-story tower at the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Wyoming Street will include a 110 to 115-room luxury hotel and 50 condominiums. Two restaurants, a spa/fitness center, meeting rooms and a grand public terrace looking out over the Monongahela River are planned along with a 500-car parking garage.
Beemsterboer is a third generation developer whose family has been active in a variety of commercial, residential and industrial developments in the Greater Chicago and northern Indiana area for the past 50 years.
One Grandview is the company's first Pittsburgh development, and Beemsterboer noted that he is looking at further development opportunities in the Greater Pittsburgh area.
