One-Third of Fantasy Football Bettors Plan to Bet More on the Season This Year, Reveals New CouponCabin Survey
--More Than Half of Those Who in a Fantasy Football League Plan to Check on Their Teams and Do Research While at Work--
WHITING, Ind., Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- With the NFL season now in full swing, fantasy football leagues all over the country are in heavy competition. Fourteen percent of U.S. adults report they are members of a fantasy football league, with 24 percent of 18-24 year olds in a league and 22 percent of 35-44 year olds. The stakes for betting on fantasy football may be higher this year, as nearly one-third (32 percent) who have bet on fantasy in the past plan to bet more this year. This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Interactive on behalf of Coupon Cabin from September 11th – 13th, 2012, among 2,454 adults ages 18 and older.
Many of those wagering on fantasy football report they've been successful in the past. Seventy-two percent of those who have ever bet money on a fantasy football league said they've won money playing. More than one-in-five (22 percent) of those who have won money have won more than $500. Additional amounts won by fantasy football players include:
- $1 - $100 – 29 percent
- $101 - $250 – 7 percent
- $251 - $500 – 14 percent
Those betting on a fantasy football league will be watching the games and roster changes closely, with many keeping up with their teams while at work. More than half (56 percent) of those who are part of a fantasy football league plan to check on their teams and do research while at work.
Sixteen percent of those who plan to check their fantasy teams at work will spend, on average, more than an hour of their workweek going over their fantasy team. Nineteen percent will spend 31 minutes to an hour, while 65 percent plan spend an hour or less.
"Football season is an exciting time of year for many sports fans, but the cost of low productivity at work can be high," said Jackie Warrick, President and Chief Savings Officer at CouponCabin.com. "If you think you'll be distracted by your fantasy league, make sure it doesn't affect the quality of your work and cost your company losses in productivity. Use your time away from work, or your break periods, to tweak your lineup and do research."
